 Great, while it works; but ultimately disappointing July 20, 2010

My wife and I got this for our first child and we were first using it, it was great. He loved playing on it, he loved the lights and music and we loved all of the animals and other little toys with it. At that point, we would have given it 5 stars, as he was mesmerized by the lights and music and would happily spend 30 minutes on it, giving the adults some time to rest. However, after about 2 months, the sound all of a sudden sounded very tinny. I thought it was the batteries and replaced them. That didn't work and within a day or two, the music wasn't working at all (the lights still work). Reading the message boards about the product, this is a common problem, as the musical unit is a piece of junk. We thought about calling to see about a warranty, but reading that the problem seems to be with almost all units, we went with a Fisher Price product, which my son also loves. Thankfully, we were able to take the toys from this activity gym to add to his new gym. But still, it isn't worth it if it will only work for 2 months.

My son enjoys watching the globe sing and light up and we haven't had a problem with it's functioning even after 6 months. However, I also own the tiny love gymini and fisher price playmat and find that their mats are a lot more comfortable to lay on (this one feels coated) and not so overstimulating. The worst part about this gymini?- By 5 months, if my son kicked an arch the entire thing collapsed and folded with him inside it like a sandwich.

I was hesitant at first to buy this activity mat based on several reviews stating that the musical globe quit working, but I thought the price was too good to pass up. My son has been playing with this mat for 5 weeks now, and so far so good. The globe is fantastic, and holds my sons attention. It works great on the handle of his travel system for shopping trips too. He loves all the toys on the mat, and they really keep him entertained for long periods of time so I can eat or wash dishes. Plus, it has helped his coordination and grasp tremendously. I highly reccomend this activity center. It works great, and is such a fantastic price.

We purchased the smaller fisher price jungle theme one for our home and the Baby Einstein for my parents home. Its large enough for our baby to roll over and still be on the mat! If a toy is too high just add a spacer and suddenly it's reachable. The star thing at the top with flashing lights and fun music holds her attention while I get food ready. It's soft, bright, colorful and she likes looking at the animals on the mat when she sits up.
This was a super buy from Amazon, and we love it.
