This set of Potato Heads is packaged very attractively. The three taters are encased in a clear, plastic box with a swiveling red handle. It's about the size and shape of a lunch box, but anything stored in here is naked for the entire world to see.
This is a nice collectors' item and shows nicely when displayed. If I had more room, I'd have left the trio in their staged box, but the 10" by 8" box is gargantuan by Potato Head standards. On the box is this suggestion: "Retain this package for future reference." If I had a spare room, I might, but as mentioned previously the box has to go.
Another note on the box states, " Adults should remove and discard plastic fasteners." This generic admonition isn't applicable for this item, one packaged sans fasteners. However opening the box while trying to preserve it for future fun was quite a chore. I used a pair of scissors to carefully slice through the miles of tape on the lid and then figure out which way to pull the assorted inserting flaps. After the lid was opened I pulled out the clear plastic Potato Holder, form fitting and very, very tight. A two-year-old would have had those taters out in a few seconds.
"Pet friends for face changing fun"
I suppose it could be fun if you could pry off the faces, all three of which are fastened tightly on the bodies. With great effort I took off the animal faces, ears and feet and reinserted them on each other's bodies. Strange that the cat and dog ended up looking exactly the same as before except that they had changed places.
Young children might have fun having a pretend puppet show or assuming the role of one of the Potato Head figures. Part switching possibilities are minimal however. Also consider that these are not full bodied Potato Heads and regular sized body parts won't work as well, if at all, on these little ones. A few seconds ago I tried putting on a pair of normal sized Potato Head glasses on Junior Spud; it was futile.
Finally
For a collector of Potato Heads, this set is worthwhile. For kids, this might be an entertaining diversion with some limitations in play value and interest sustainability
