excellent baby monitor - worth every penny! July 7, 2010 Tracy Lombardi 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read many reviews on many products and decided to purchase the zopid interference free monitor system. It was a very smart decision on my part. Not only is it very user friendly, have a lot of options (including many different zoom views), but the clarity on the screen for BOTH day and night vision is excellent, the audio is SO much better than my existing Graco audio monitor system. The Graco system is always on - with this system, it only flashes on when there is either motion or audio detection (both very sensitive). So, my monitor next to my bed is virtually silent unless our baby makes noise. I also keep a sound machine on in the room while she sleeps and the system is smart enough to know that this is a constant and it doesn't alert me unless there's another noise. I set the video screen feature to 60 seconds - that way, it saves the battery life. Most of the time, it remains plugged in, so I've not had any issues with the battery life. I figure I don't need to have the monitor on all the time, so I set it to 60 seconds, which seems to be plenty of time - if I want to check on her, I just click on any of the side buttons and the screen comes to life. The bracket to mount the monitor is very easy to use. Also, the handheld device is very lightweight, which is a feature that I appreciate - who wants to carry around a 10 pound handheld monitor? The clip on the back is very useful, too. I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good video/audio monitor system that is priced well and is reliable, easy to use, and has a lot of sweet features.
Great Monitor! April 4, 2010 Patrick Hogan (USA) I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this baby monitor and was a little hesitant to purchase this one from a company I wasn't familiar with (Who is Hi-Tech Trading (U.S.A)?). And to be honest I wasn't reassured when the product showed up - the units are surprisingly lightweight, the monitor is large compared to the monitor, and the physical design seems dated in the ipod era. The manual looks like it was designed in WordPerfect '95. Then I turned it on and realized how wrong I was - this is the best video monitor I could have hoped for and warrants me getting up to write a review and urge all you shoppers to save your time and buy this product! Here are my key monitor criteria and how the product fared:
- Video and audio quality: Very good, it surpassed my expectations and showed no visible interference, snow, static, or hissing.
- Range: Excellent, again surpassed my expectations. This one is hard to judge from the advertisements and surely equally hard for the manufacturer to describe. How far will the range be? Well it depends on any interference issues, walls, floors, building materials, etc. I live in a larger than average (3500 sq ft.) two story house, and the nursery is in a corner of the house on the second floor. The reception is excellent everywhere in the house, and even outside. I've never noticed the video even flicker or hesitate in the house.
- Interference: No interference noticed with my 2.4 GHz wifi setup. How does it do this so well when it seems like so many things do have noticeable interference in this band? The mysterious advertised frequency hopping baffles me but it works!
- Night vision: Works as described. Plenty of light to look across a crib with the camera. Does a great job of switching form night to daylight mode automatically.
- Controls: Volume buttons on the receiver. Don't bother buying a monitor without this function. This also turns the video on when it is sleeping due to no sound. The menu is full functioned with options and settings but also simple and easy to use without the helpful (but spartan-looking) manual. It has a digital zoom feature that may be useful and can zoom at the corners of the image also. Not tested, but apparently has easy integration of additional cameras and volume buttons can be substituted as camera change buttons.
- VOX: Amazing! If you leave the receiver unplugged you'll want to have the video turn off when your baby is still and quiet, but turn on when he/she makes any noise. This works great, and even has a visual volume indicator so you can see how loud it is even if you have the volume low or muted. Somehow it can even tell when I have white noise on (lapping waves of an ocean for example) and doesn't turn the video on for that, but as soon as baby gurgles it flips on. How does it do it? Again, beats me but it sure works well!
- Battery life: Exceeds advertised length in my experience with voice activated video.
- Privacy: I can't test this one, but since the frequency hopping that is supposed to prevent interference and ensure privacy prevents interference so well I'll give the manufacturer the benefit of the doubt and assume it is secure.
- Others: No annoying lights, plenty of volume, apparently good customer support.
What else is important in a video monitor? I can't think of anything. If you want a monitor that looks futuristic to impress your friends (without turning it on) you could probably find a better monitor but if you just want one that works without thinking about it do yourself a favor and buy this one.
ZOpid Digital Interference-free Audio & Video Baby Monitor Mediocre March 5, 2010 Julian Russell (Gainesville, VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Quick and Dirty - Why did I give this product 3 stars:
What's Bad About This Product
1.) POOR VIDEO QUALITY: The picture is no where near as clear as my cheap, 3yr old baby monitor. In-fact, you can barely tell what's going on on the screen because it's so pixelated.
2.) POOR COLOR: The color on the cameras is completely washed out. It might as well be black & white.
3.) SERVICE FAILURE: I've had to reset the system a number of times. This means that each time the system has lost its connection, my child has not been properly monitored until I discovered the problem, and fixed the system.
4.) BATTERY FAILURE: The battery on the monitor or "base" will not hold a charge for more than an hour or so. You have to leave it plugged in to a power source all the time. Same thing goes for the cameras especially if they're on night-mode.
5.) SHORT CABLES: The power cords are way too short for the cameras. I had to buy and install an electrical extension cord for each camera just to get it to a nearby power outlet.
6.) PROPRIETARY MOUNTING HARDWARE: The cameras do not have a base to allow you to put them on a table. The cameras have a mounting system, but it's proprietary (you have to drill holes and screw it into something to hold it up -- it doesn't have that standard "eyelet" hook on the camera that you can just hang onto a picture frame hook or a nail)
What's Good About This Product
1.) You can put up to 8 cameras onto the sytem and monitor them all, either manually or with an "auto-shift" mode that goes from camera to camera every so many seconds.
2.) The base monitor supports powering/charging via USB (handy).
3.) The company seems OK.
4.) The audio detection and playback through the monitor is very good. It doesn't bother you unless there is a legitimate noise, and then the camera comes to life so you can attempt to see what's going on.
5.) Truly no interference (no crackling, no buzzing, no picture wavering) even in a large house (monitor on the 1st floor, cameras on the 2nd)
6.) Improved privacy over old-school monitoring systems (less chance someone is watching your baby from another monitor)
7.) Support firmware updates to the software on the monitor (requires technical proficiency)
Terrible Product!!!!! March 4, 2010 Stephanie L. Luca 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Please, if you are considering this monitor buy something else. We purchased this monitor for our two children to have one in each room. Not only does the monitor just shut off for no reason, sometimes it won't even turn on. The camera in my son's room barely picks up sound and the one in my daughter's room loses the connection constantly. Sometimes I wake up and there is no feed to her room and she is crying and I have no idea!!!! I hate this monitor, I had Sommer monitor before this and it lasted 3 years with no problems, we just neede feed to two rooms and unfortunately bought this system. If I can prevent just ONE person from buying this monitor, I will feel better. If it wasn't so much money, I would have thrown it out the window a long time ago!!! As I am typing this, I lost the feed to my daughter's room!!! Terrible, terrible terrible product!!!!!
Just to add a note, I sent the monitor back to be "fixed" and it was returned still unusable. When I called the customer service line, I was told to ship it again for a replacement. I was concerned because I have been without a monitor for my two children for over a week, and the representative told me I shouldn't be using a monitor to take care of my children. Very inappropriate response and a horrible product. Now it will be almost another week before I have peace of mind when I sleep at night. Needless to say, it's been terrible sleeping without it.
Great Product, Outstanding Customer Service February 8, 2010 Sammy Willoughby 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using this product for almost a year now and would purchase another one today if I had to. I am actually going back and adding this comment due to the latest customer service received. I recently had to contact customer service concerning a warranty issue. I was sent an RMA number with instructions and information about the return. To my surprise the turnaround was about a week. I received a new monitor as well as new firmware on both cameras and monitor. I took everything out of the box and it was already setup for use. How easy was that! My method of contact was via email and the responses were very timely and professional. I had actually contacted this company a while back asking about a personal issue I had with the unit and was told that it would be addressed in the next firmware. Yeah right I said. I've heard that one before. Again to my surprise, the new firmware had addressed the issue. How unbelievably awesome is that!! It's so odd to find a company with this level of customer service so I'm still a little blown away. How could you not recommend this product. I think it recommends itself, given the chance.
Sammy
