good for a gym July 24, 2010 hundekennel My baby likes the gym! Granted I have bought extra links that hang down and have other toys that I attached to it as well but overall my daughter likes it. I put the mirror up in the center of the beams of the gym and she will talk talk talk to it. Like what another reviewer said "No gym is going to be absolutely perfect" but this gets the job done and for the amount of time my baby has used it and had fun with it, it is worth the money. I like it overall and could point out the little things that are not as great but really it doesn't matter because my daughter really likes playing on it regardless if the music is playing or not.
Hey Mikey! She Likes It! July 23, 2010 Christine M. Tynes (Virginia Beach, VA) When she's not already in a fussy mood, my almost 3 month old really enjoys lying on her back and playing on this Neptune Play Gym. She enjoys the music because when it stops, she starts hollering and gets aggravated (lol). The music flashes lights and runs for a decent amount of time (I think 10 mins or so). I catch her looking at the mirror, though I wish it were a real mirror and not one of those cheap, distorted mirrors that do not give you an accurate reflection of yourself (it is the kind that stretches the image of your face). She also LOVES the little aqua blue octopus with the rattle ball on the end. She will hit that and smile often.
This gym is very bright and colorful, easy to set up and easy to clean. You can actually throw the mat in the washing machine and dry it on a low setting (love that). You can also use the extra loops to hang other toys/rattles from the top of the activity gym. Very nice.
My baby loves this mat July 21, 2010 RockstarV I bought this for my baby and as soon as I put him down on it, he started kicking and smiling. He is very intrigued by the octopus and he enjoys the music and the colorful ocean theme. He can stay on the mat for a good 30 minutes before he gets tired.
Baby LOVES it - necessity July 10, 2010 E. Lyons My 4-month-old absolutely loves it! I think his favorite toy is the octopus, we always put it at the top and he bats at it and kicks at it and cracks up. He gets so excited when hes laying on this mat looking at the toys. He loves having the musical aquarium too. I don't care too much for the whale pillow although it is cute. I had to add on a few more entertaining toys, but it is still way better than the other Infantino playmat I bought.
CONS:
The price is ridiculous most places, but thankfully I found it here on Amazon for $30 cheaper than other places. Still not sure it is worth $50... but it entertains my son so I don't regret buying it one bit.
Now, the REASON it is not worth the price is because it seems cheaply constructed. The loops on the mat part that hold the bars down are already ripping off after a couple of weeks. The loops are just not sewn on strong enough to secure down the bent toy bars, because the toy bars want to straighten out. I may have received a defective one? Its not even that big of deal because it can probably be sewn back together.
CONCLUSION:
No play mat is going to be all that it is advertised to be, pictures always make them look like they have more toys and so on. However, this play mat seems to be the closest to what its drummed up to be. I think the baby einstein playmats in general seem great.
I would recommend buying it. Its not perfect, but its close.
Not bad but not good either July 9, 2010 tigress (NH) This gym is fine for small babies. My daughter went on it for hours a day. Unfortunately she hated tummy time so we didn't really use it for that. She laid on it and liked the octopus and the music when she was finally old enough to activate and touch the items herself. We never used the whale pillow and we barely used the plastic cards with the real life pictures. Rather we hung other items from links from the hanging tabs that were within her reach or easily viewable. We also put the aquarium on the side attached to the 2 poles and it caused one of the poles to sag slightly. And we had it set up correctly. The poles need to be parallel, not crossed. The material does wash pretty well ( the underneath had some pillage) which is good because the mat is made of a slippery material that caused her to sweat profusely- and she used the gym in the winter months. Once she learned how to roll over we were done with it. It was too small for her to stay on, she kept getting stuck on the poles and she just outgrew it. So it did last us 5 months or so. But it just seemed that once it become really age appropriate she outgrew it. We saved the bag it came in and it is put away and went back in nicely. I do wish we had gotten one that could have been used when she was able to sit. Some other gyms do have pieces that you can sit on the floor and your child can play with it from a sitting position. At least with those you might be able get more use out of it.
